  • Quantity: 2 tire chains
  • Internal clearance required: 0 mm

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

If you're looking for a way to get traction in the snow without scratching your rims, these K-Summit chains are your best option. The chain only sits on the tire tread and is fastened to one of the lug nuts on your wheel with an easy-to-use fixing key. There are no attachments behind the wheel like typical tire chains, which ensures that there is no interference with any suspension or braking components on the inside of the wheel well. You won't have to stop and readjust these chains either - they self-tension, self-center, and conform to the tire perfectly as you drive, providing a precise fit even on worn tires. These chains are ideal for use in light snow and ice.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you wont be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Because these chains are customizable, the first fitting could take a little time but after that, it's simple. The included instructions will let you know if you need to adjust the chains based on your tire size.

Remove lug cover if present

1. To begin installation, you'll need access to your wheel's lug nuts. If you have a plate covering your lug nuts, pop it off using either the included Allen key or a flathead screwdriver.

Determine size of lug nuts

2. Determine which lug nut adapter you'll need to fit over the nut on your wheel. Attach that adapter to the included fixing key. The most commonly used adapters are included.

Lay chains over tire thread

3. Fit the chain over your wheel, getting it as far onto the tire as possible.

Tighten lug nut adapter

4. Using the fixing key, thread the included bolt into the adapter. The other end of the fixing key will attach to the K-Summit base, which includes the ratcheting mechanism that tensions the chains as you drive.

The adapter secures over your lug nut to hold the K-Summit base in place on your wheel. You might need to use the included spacer to get the chains to sit properly.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

It works! Not so easy to learn how to use/installation (lack of online and general installation guide) but once figure out, it works. It's costly (10 times more expensive than normal snow chains) but I guess that's the price to pay for Porsche chain; yaiks! I wish they address those 2 issues in the future; price and installation instruction.

I'm giving these four stars as I haven't tried them in snow. I bought them in Spring to save a few $$.

The instructions are a little weird as the English translation isn't great and the pics are unclear in a few places. The instruction videos on etrailer are very helpful.

You MUST set these up before you need to use them as they have to be sized to your specific tire dimensions and lug nut.

The tightening wrench has a torque setting. When you fit the lug nut connection you tighten until you hear a click. It ends up really tight and took a little work to remove.

After the lug connection is on, you tighten a ratchet before rolling the vehicle to complete installation. I didn't notice at first you only tighten until you see a line of red stitching. Because of that the chain didn't go on property. I reset and tried again and all was fine.

These go on very tight. At least if you follow instructions to the letter.

Hope they do what I need them to do in winter.

Etrailer.com did an excellent job in shipping the two sets of chains that I ordered. Super detailed tracking information was awesome. It always makes me nervous when buying over the internet that a retailer may ship the wrong item especially considering how many different sizes these chains are available. I will point out that the chains were advertised as Thule. However, I received one set of Thule and the other set was Konig who bought out this chain line from Thule in 12/2015. In comparing the two brands side-by-side, the components and build are absolutely indistinguishable from each other with the exception of the brand stickers. I have no reason to believe one brand to be superior to the other. The K56's fit my Honda Accord 225/65/17 tires like a glove. They are a combination of simplicity and sophistication, if that's possible. I can't wait to try them out on the ice and snow. Thank you etrailer.com and I would definitely order from you again.

by:

It fits! I have a Tesla Model S with 21" staggered wheels, I don't need chains but I must carry to comply and it gives me peace of mind.
etrailer can't recommend it, but Konig's website did Say the XL K55 model fits 265/35-21.

It came with 3 size of nut grabbers and nut spacers. There was no manual in the box but I found it online. The manual is needed because the chain can be made wider removing some springs and the manual says how many according to the tire size.

I am using K-Summit chains on a Chevy Bolt to get to a house in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I need the extra grip to get up some steep hills if there is snow or ice on the ground. The chains successfully allow me to climb hills through snow at least 4 inches deep and over ice where I could not otherwise go. The chains are easy to install and remove. The problem is that after a few uses several of the D Links broke. The advantage is that the Konig sent replacement chains under warranty. (There was a bit of a communication mix up between Italy and the United States. If I was a bit more persistent, I'm sure the warranty process would have been much quicker.) Haven't yet had a need to put the replacement chains to much use, so don't yet know whether I received a defective set of chains or whether this design is not suited to my use (which shouldn't be overly demanding). The purchase was quick and easy with etrailer.com. The warranty replacement was handled directly by Konig.

I am very impressed with the quality, unique design and ease of installation. I have test fit these chains to our vehicle and the fit is great for our application where the chains cannot extend to the inside of the tire as there is no clearance. Having said this, to date we have not used the chains in the snow. We live in the Sierra Mountains of California in a location where we are required to carry chains. However, in our area it is rare that the road crews have not cleared the snow to the point where four-wheel-drive will suffice. I'm assuming I would rate these chains with five stars after actual road use.

by:

Fits tight as a drum! The K44 is nice and snug on my 19’s. Kinda nervous about the stress on the tensioning strap and lug nut clinchers, but these things will be sweet if the Engineers did their job right! Only plan to use these for a few miles at a time, so if all goes well they’ll last me a good long while

These are adapters to allow the associated chain set fit some uncommon tire lugs. The adapters work flawlessly. Ordered them for the chain set as the rims on my vehicle require them. Fit perfectly as did the chains after adjustment.

However, I don't know how well they actually work on snow and ice. Based on experience with a number of other chain sets I see no reason to doubt their reliability and efficiency.

Backstory: Ordered a set for a trip to Colorado over Christmas & New Year's as we were expecting snow and ice as we were planning to travel to Estes Park, Denver, Colorado Springs, Salida, Buena Vista, Leadville, etc. Received our order quickly and correctly. Tried chains on tires and made fitting adjustments per instructions for exact tire size. Played with the chains a few times to make sure I knew how to get them deployed quickly. They are extremely easy to put on once they are adjusted. Watch the video - it really is that easy.

Fast forward a few weeks, we went on our trip. Got not much more than a dusting the whole trip and never had to put the chains on.

Meanwhile, back home, there were something like 129,000 poor bxxxxxxs waiting for the roads to be cleared and power to be restored from the huge ice and snow storms.

At the end of our trip we drove home over clear roads surrounded by big piles of plowed snow. Arrived home to find our neighbors huge tree uprooted and blown over. We didn't receive any damage. Next day got the hound out of doggie jail pretty much as if nothing had happened.

I like these chains!

This is an update to the review for the 2017 MINI Cooper with 205/45-17 tires. By taking off both spacers (red and silver), I was able to get the chains to center on the tire - I might even be able to put one of the chain tightening screws back on, maybe more as the tread wears down. So I think they're going to work well this winter. I'll bump the review up to five stars when I can figure out how to get them to easily fit into the carrying case.

Excellent service. They helped me find a product that I could not find.

Had these K-Summit "chains" for a Toyota Corolla for 5+ years, and they worked so well that I immediately bought a new pair to fit my 2013 Honda Accord (different tire size), and they also work great. Used them the other day in 6" of unplowed snow, on the hill I live on. As long as you go slow (I usually drive < 25 MPH) they just keep moving you forward. Two quick notes: 1) I noticed going uphill that my wheels started skidding, then stopping, and repeated that annoying cycle, which made it harder than usual to continue moving forward. I quickly figured out that this was the way the anti-spin system worked on the car (which doesn't want you to spin your wheels). I disabled that and that odd behavior stopped. 2) The fitting guide, which tells you how many "links" or "regulation elements" (as the instructions calls them) to remove to fit the chain to the tire, is assuming you're placing them on all-season tires. When you use snow tires, as I do, you have to remove more links to get the chain to fit correctly. This is not a problem, but it's useful to know. The representative from Thule, the company from whom I bought my original set, admitted that they should mention this in the instruction guide.

by:

Awesome grip. Easy to put in and take off. Great for low-clearance (oversized) wheels. Worth the price.

by:

So these are really expensive but there weren't a lot of options for my wide 22" tires. Are they worth it? Absolutely! These are my first chains so I wasn't sure what to expect, but once you make the initial size adjustments, it is super easy to get these on! I've seen other cars on the side of the road struggling to get their traditional chains on, where you have to lay down the chains, drive over, then wrap them around the tire and secure them.

With these, I just unfold them, push them onto the tires as far as they will go over the top and front and back, and slowly drive forward until they auto-adjust in place. A quick stop to double-check and make sure they are on all the way, and off I go.

Love them!

by:

Great quality, easy to setup and install, and convenient to carry. Thanks etrailer.com for providing additional instruction videos as well. Recommended.

by:

These chains fit my 2022 chevrolet equinox perfectly. The manual on the car says not to use snow chains. There's no clearance behind the wheels and chains would hit and possibly mess up the brakes. I didn't know this untill I tryed to put chains on and they were no clearance and looked at the manual.I found these k summit chains I knew I had to have them. I fitted them on my car, they are so easy to put on and take off. I haven't had any snow to use them yet but winter is just starting and I will up date my review after we get snow.

by:

etrailer was awesome to deal with, processed my purchase and shipped it out very quickly. I like these chains, although they have some trouble self-tensioning on my tires. The chain on the inside gets caught in the tread of my tire, so you have to push it up and past that part to get it installed properly.

by:

Delivered what I ordered and on time

by:

These chains fit like a glove on my 2014 Mustang. Although the price is high, they are well worth it!

by:

These are super easy to put on and take off. Haven't really needed them too much but when I did use them, they were great.

by:

Thanks for having a short, and to the point customer survey. Retailers that think a person will waste 2-3 minutes answering questions are delusional. Customers will only make that kind of investment if they are [upset].

by:

I found the preinstallation check list and install procedure easy to use.
These are the easiest chains I have ever installed or removed.
I can install both chains in 5 minutes and you don't get wet or dirty doing it.
They worked great on my Volvo AWD. Making those areas I had problems with before a piece of cake.
One note of caution, make sure you tightened the attachment to the lug nut secure. If you don't the chains could come off while driving. And you might not know it!
My Volvo lugs have very shallow nut to attach to, I think I'll look into lugs with more depth.
All in all very satisfied with my purchase .

by:

I haven't had to use them yet, but the configuration for my tire size, as well as fitting them on my tires was very easy. I look forward to actually putting them on in a show condition where they are needed.

by:

I have a 2019 Subaru Forester. I purchased these based on the recommendations and information provided by this site. The Call Center rep was extremely helpful in finalizing more order by making sure it should be compatible with my vehicle and discussing shipping options.

As for the tire chains, they fit well once I figured out how to install them. They are very easy to install once you get them adjusted for your tire and find the right fit combination between the lug nut size and the spacers.

The only main issue I have is with the tire size and the recommended sizing of the tires. The instruction manual recommended removing one of the pins to allow for more chain radius. However, I had to remove six to get the chains on properly.

However, once that was complete, the chains are incredibly easy to put on. The winch works well pulling the chains snug to the tires and is easy to adjust. Releasing is a little harder, but still easy.

by:

Bought these chains for a Tesla Model S with standard 19" wheels.
Came with the 21mm lug nut adapter, and fits when following the instructions.
(Instructions are not great, and it was hard to believe the chains would pull themselves onto the tires with how tight they were - but they did)

We have a BMW X3 in the foothills of the Sierras and need to have chains on hand. Normal chains are not an option for the BMW X3. On the surface theses seem like a very slick product. In reality maybe for some. There are limited Choices for the X3, The K-Summit Size: K45 seem OK but I have issues and concerns.
Once received you have to fit the chains to your tires. DO HIS IN THE GARAGE BEFORE YOU GO ANYWHERE. Doing this on the road in the snow would be a pain. If you like IKEA you’ll love the instructions. (Well maybe not that bad). Go on-line and look at some videos. I needed to remove 4 “regulation elements” on each chain to fit our tires. Tools are provided but I used a metric socket and a cordless drill to help with this and it took maybe 5 minutes. With hand tools the 8 total “elements’ would have taken 20 or more.
Now basically shove the chain more or less in place with plastic “pads at 10:00, 2:00, 4:00 and 8:00 O’Clock positions on the tire.
Next make sure you have the correct size lug nut adapter and the proper spacing from the rim. Supposedly just put the adaptor on a lug, with the indicating tip toward the rim center and tighten the bolt with the supplied wrench.
I found issues with the 17mm lug adapter and the 17mm BMW lug. The BMW lug is not very tall and the adapter never felt very securely seated to me. (Yes I made sure the adapter is seated correctly in the “cup”; instructions mention this). This may be better on other vehicles.
Lastly, pull the crank until you see the red line on the nylon strap. Dive forward 50 feet or so so the chains will move onto the tire. We got out of the car to check and it still required a couple of short toe kicks to fully get them securely on.
In summary they seem to “work OK”. I didn’t find any better options available for the X3. Once set up they are fairly easy to install with the exception of the lug nut connection which I found insecure and fussy on the X3. The plastic components give me concern for durability. Will they become brittle and break in cold temperatures or over extended use? Time will tell. Very costly if there is a failure on the road warrantee not withstanding.

  • Can Tire Chains/Cables Be Used On 2024 Honda HR-V With 225/55-18 Tires?
Hey Ryan, thanks for reaching out. Honda doesn’t recommend any chains or cables on the 2023 HR-V with 225/55R18 tires because there’s simply not enough clearance in the wheel well, so even low-profile cables like the Glacier # PW1042 aren’t considered safe. • Snow Chain Recommendation for 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i Limited with 225/60/17 Tire Size
The best tire chain option we have for your 2015 Subaru Forester with the tire size 225/60-17 is going to be the Konig K-Summit chains part # th02230k45. Unlike other tire chains these do not drape over the inside of the tire sidewall at all which means they do not require any clearance at all to fit. I attached a picture that shows this as well.

  • Best Low-Profile Tire Chains for 2016 Jeep Compass 4WD
In general a 4WD vehicle performs best with tire chains on all four tires, since all four tires deliver traction. But if you only want to use one set most often they will do the most good on the rear tires. Chains are selected based on tire size, which can be found right on the tire sidewall. If you click on the link provided you'll see how the tire size code, like 205/70-16, is indicated. Once you confirm your tire size just click on that size to see the chains that fit those tires. For...

  • Low Clearance Snow Chain Recommendation for 2019 Subaru Crosstrek.
For your 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with the tire size 225/55-18 the Titan chains part # TC1555 are the correct size and are Class S compatible which means the clearance required to install them is not much. That said since your owners manual says no chains at all the better option is the K-Summits part # th02230k45 as they do not drape over the inside of the tire at all which means they don't require any clearance. This is the area where most tire chain clearance issues arise. This would be...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for 2006 Jaguar XJ With 235/50r18 Tires
The Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # th02230k45 are confirmed to fit your 2006 Jaguar XJ Series with 235/50r18 tires and I do not see any issues with this setup. The only thing I would say is that it takes some time to install these chains, so if you don't plan on keeping them installed for a long time then I would go with a different set of chains. I personally would go with the pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Tire Chains - 1 Pair # PWRS77 instead. This offers a much simpler...

  • Recommended Snow Chains With Wheel Protection For A 2024 Mustang With 235/50-18 Tires
For your 2024 Ford Mustang with 235/50-18 tires I recommend the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # th02230k45. These chains will anchor to the wheel lug nut. The chain itself sits on the tire tread only, and no part will ever come into contact with the wheel. So not only will they offer superior traction, but it will leave the wheel completely untouched, while creating zero interference behind the wheel. I have linked our install/review video below if you want to take a look.

  • Snow Traction Device Recommendations for 2015 Chevrolet Impala
We have rated our tire socks and tire cables as traction devices that work best in light snow. These traction devices are good for when you're driving on a paved road that has maybe an inch or less of snow on it. Tire chains that we have labeled as good for deep snow offer a heavier traction than the socks and cables but are not as heavy duty has a typical off-road driving chain. For your 2015 Chevrolet Impala I recommend either the ISSE Hybrid Snow Socks # TCH70 or the Konig K-Summit...

  • Recommended Replacement Tire Chains For a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan With 235/50-18 Wheels and Tires
The Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # th02230k45 are only available as a set and not individually. I recommend the Konig Self-Tensioning, Low-Pro Snow Tire Chains # th04115240 for your 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan with 235/50-18 wheels and tires. These have a lot less steps to install the chains when you need them. They simply get placed around the tire and then you step on the pedal to activate the tensioner to secure the chains. I never liked the idea of the lug nut strap holding...

  • Tire chains for 275/30 R21 Low Profile Run Flat on a 750i BMW
I recommend going with the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # th02230k45 which have the diamond pattern and D links with ice spikes for superior traction. These are some of the easiest to install tire chains on the market and will tension as you drive. These chains have a low profile design that keeps them riding solely on the tread of your tires, which is perfect for the tight wheel well clearance on your 2017 BMW 750i and they won't scratch up your wheels. These chains are...

  • Recommended Konig Tire Chains For A 2024 Tesla Model S
Hello Michael. I double checked with Konig, and their fit guide states that the K-Summit XL K55 will fit the 2024 Tesla Model S. We have these chains as part # th02230k55. They do state that these will only fit models with the 285/40-19 tires so please do confirm that this is your tire size. If you happen to have a different tires size, feel free to post it in the comment below and I am happy to make a recommendation. As with any tire chains, we do recommend that you check your owner's...

  • Will Konig K-Summit Tire Chains Fit 225/60R17 Tires on a 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon
The Konig K-Summit Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # th02230k45 do fit 225/60R17 size tires, but we were finding a lot of instances where it wasn't fitting right on some of the 2011 Subaru Outback Wagons so we decided to take it out of our fitguide just to be on the safe side of things. I recommend going with the Konig Easy Fit CU9 # TH04115104 chains instead. These are just as nice and extremely easy to install. The biggest different is that these do sit on the back side of the...
